The Income Generation Project (IGP) of WEAVE will have a grand relaunching of the Fair Trade Shop and the opening of the new WEAVE gallery. Entitled “Celebrating An Exciting Milestone”, the double celebration will be on March 25, 2011, Friday, from 7 pm – 10 pm. There will be special presentation at 7 pm in the form of fashion show where WEAVE staff will model ethnic clothing and the unveiling of new products. The new WEAVE gallery will showcase photo exhibition of the women weavers, embroiders, and sewers in the camps.
The event celebrates the milestone of 14 years of success for IGP. Over 1,000 artisans have learned valuable skills in weaving, sewing or embroidery. Over 500 women have become home-based entrepreneurs, earning much-needed income from customers around the world. WEAVE uses its local and international marketing channels to service customers, including Fair Trade networks, NGOs, educators and international student and community groups, from as far away as Canada and the US.
The Fair Trade Shop is a partnership between WEAVE and Thai Tribal Crafts, along with other organizations supporting women artisans from marginalized ethnic groups. It has stores in Mae Sot and Chiang Mai, Thailand. It is a member of the World Fair Trade Organization. It is located in Mae Sot, Tak Province, 51 Intarakeeree Road 63110.
All guests are invited to wear their own ethnic attire.
