Last March 29- April 2, the Early Childhood Development team conducted two trainings simultaneously for nursery teachers in the Ban Don Yan Karen refugee camp and in the Plaing Japense village, Mon area n Mae Hong Son province. The 5-day trainings revolved around the topics Child Development and Visual Aids which were participated in by 28 staff and students in the Karen Camp and 30 participants in the Plaing Japense Village hailing from 6 different villages in the area.
From ECCD Developmental Milestones, the training devoted two days to Child Development which taught the participants what child development is and what the capabilities a child has at each developmental stage from birth to eight years old.
The second half of the training which began the activities for the month of April focused on creating different kinds of visual aids for nursery school teaching. Different kinds of charts and cards were focused on during the training such as pocket charts, flash cards, table charts, matching cards as well as making of plastic stories. Through training with the help of fun activities such as singing and playing games, the objectives were met.
On another note, the WEAVE-ECCD conducted a 3-day training last April 21-23 as invited by the Ethnic Migrant Families Society. The 10 participants working for EMFS were taught about the Convention of the Rights of the Child (CRC) and Child Protection. The participants were of different ethnicities Shan, Karen and Thai but all the same, they remarked that they were able to understand the topic and enjoy the training.
