Transition Study – Early Childhood Development Program

On 6 May members of WEAVE’s Early Childhood Development team facilitated a Curriculum Alignment Workshop in, Mae Hong Son.

The purpose of the workshop was to:

  • Exchange teaching styles and methods to develop a shared understanding, and align for smooth transitions between nursery school and kindergarten.
  • Develop a shared understanding of expected learning outcomes and teaching methods for both NS teachers and KG/S1 teachers (specifically to review physical, social/emotional areas agreed last meeting, and complete cognitive areas).
  • Discuss future directions for the transition study committee.

WEAVE Opens Fair Trade Shop in Mae Sot
WEAVE received a steady stream of visitors who joined to celebrate the Grand Opening of its new Fair Trade Shop in Mae Sot (Tak Province), on the evening of 19th February 2009. Guests were lucky enough to share the occasion with some of the women who work with WEAVE as part of its Income Generation Project, who were presented with Certificates of Appreciation for their involvement over many years. Proceedings also included presentations by WEAVE and TTC staff, a ceremonial ribbon cutting, a chance to explore the new shop and a feast of Thai and Burmese food.

Weaving Their Way

Imagine being unjustly exiled from your country and forced to leave family, home, assets and identity behind. Working for a living is out of the question; your new host government does not permit it. Your bank account no longer exists, everyone you know is hundreds of miles away and nearly all communication with the outside world has been severed.  This situation is a daily reality for the thousands of refugees along the Thai-Burma border, many of whom were born in the camps and have never known a different life.
