Background:
Women’s Education for Advancement and Empowerment (WEAVE) Foundation works in partnership with ethnic minority women on the Thai-Myanmar border and Thai villages surrounding the refugee camps in Mae Hong Son and Tak, Northern Thailand. WEAVE believes that the empowerment of women and the development of their status benefit the whole community. WEAVE’s projects address many of the key problems faced by these women and their children through two main thrusts: women’s economic empowerment and early childhood development. The Foundation gives them opportunity to improve through education, confidence building and skills development. WEAVE also highly recognizes the critical role of women in providing for their families and ensuring the well-being of their children and as such focuses on disadvantage and vulnerable women in particular. WEAVE is a member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) Asia and its main office is in Chiang Mai, Thailand with branches in Mae Sod and Mae Hong Son.
The position of Agro-Forestry Officer supports to the over-all implementation of the Community-Based Resource Management Project.
General functions and responsibilities:
ü Take the lead in development and implementation of Agro-Forestry Development Plan.
ü Farm Manager in the communal agro-forestry farm operation.
ü Ensures that the farm is properly managed and equipment and facilities are maintained and kept safe.
ü Supervises daily activities of farm operations and provide immediate action on matters that affects operations.
ü Ensures that the farm’s schedule of activities is properly executed/implemented based on the project plan and reports any cause of delay or problems.
ü Overseas farm workers activities and evaluates performance regarding ability to perform tasks in a timely, correct and efficient manner.
ü Timely submission of farm operations report.
ü Checks and records daily operations.
ü Monitors and verifies actual farming activities.
ü Maintain at all times high moral and integrity in the performance of his duty.
ü Strictly adhere/follow to the Foundation’s Code of Conduct.
ü Performs other duties that maybe assigned by his supervisors.
Minimum work requirements:
ü The applicant must be an ‘Indigenous person’ from the Asia
Knowledge and Qualification:
ü Bachelor’s degree on relevant Agriculture/Forestry – Agri Extension Education, Agronomy or BS Forestry.
ü Possess knowledge and understanding of community-based approach to development, issues on indigenous people rights as well as refugees situation.
Work experience:
ü Minimum 2 years work experience in working on agriculture-forestry fields relating to indigenous/ethnic peoples.
ü At least 2 years work experience on project management, monitoring and evaluation.
ü At least 1 year work experience with indigenous/ethnic communities, local government agencies and civil society organizations.
Skills and Abilities:
ü Computer Literate
ü Self-motivated, dynamic, creative and energetic
ü Has good interpersonal and leadership skills
ü Possess positive attitude to working in multi-ethnic/diverse setting
ü Possess flexibility to do multi-tasking and to work under pressure
ü Can work with minimal supervision and a team player
ü Possess driving license
