Weaving Their Way

Imagine being unjustly exiled from your country and forced to leave family, home, assets and identity behind. Working for a living is out of the question; your new host government does not permit it. Your bank account no longer exists, everyone you know is hundreds of miles away and nearly all communication with the outside world has been severed.  This situation is a daily reality for the thousands of refugees along the Thai-Burma border, many of whom were born in the camps and have never known a different life.

Welcome!
Welcome to the first issue of WEAVE News! It’s been awhile since you heard from us, but WEAVE has been very busy with some exciting and new developments: the creation of our own e-newsletter and the new design of our website. More importantly, we celebrated our 18th birthday this year and WEAVE only continues to grow our services. Even as the scale of our work expands, however, the impact of WEAVE programs remains very personal: it is the daily struggles and hard-won successes of individual women and children that fuel our determination to empower displaced individuals and communities. In WEAVE News, we will update the progress of our programs but also feature these stories of individual impact with the hope that you, too, will share our passion for creating a more just and equitable world.

Presentation of Transition Result in MHS

A transition result presentation was held in Mae Hong Son on November 26, 2009. It was attended  by 4 Nursery Schools and Teacher Trainers, 1 Project Coordinator, 1 Capacity Building Trainer, 1 Parent, 4 Primary Head Teacher, 1 ZOA, 1 Camp Committee Treasurer, 1 Camp Social worker, and 1 OCEE Education Coordinator.

The WEAVE-ECD staff facilitated in the discussion for the presentation and planning. During the discussion, several concerns were taken up and its corresponding agreements were reached to improve some of the procedures.
